A drain that backs up once is a clog. A drain that backs up every few months is a problem with the line, and clearing it again will not change that. We clear drains and repair sewer lines across Bryan, College Station and the surrounding Brazos Valley, and we look for the reason it happened.
Why does the same drain keep clogging?
Usually one of four things: roots that have found a joint and keep growing back, a belly where the line has settled and holds water, a broken or offset section, or a build-up of grease and scale narrowing the pipe. A cable clears a path through the blockage; it does not fix any of those. That is why the clog returns on a schedule.
- Clear it first. Cable or jetter depending on what is in the line and what the pipe can take. Older clay and cast iron do not always want a jetter, and we would rather not turn a blockage into a repair.
- Then look inside. If it is a repeat, we camera the line so you can see what is actually down there instead of taking our word for it.
- Repair what the camera found. A spot repair on one bad joint, or a replacement if the line is past saving. You get the footage and a written quote either way.
If a drain has been cleared three times, the third one was not the fix. Something down there is holding water or letting roots in.
