How do I know if I have a slab leak?
The usual signs are a water bill that climbed without a change in habits, a warm patch on the floor, the sound of running water with everything shut off, or a meter that keeps creeping when nothing is on. Any one of those is worth a call. Guessing and cutting concrete is the worst version of this job.
What is sewer smoke testing?
Non-toxic smoke is introduced into the drain system under low pressure. Because the system is meant to be sealed, smoke escapes wherever it is not — a cracked line, a dry or missing trap, a bad vent connection, an uncapped cleanout. It is the fastest way to find the source of a sewer-gas smell, and it shows breaks that a camera can miss because they sit above the water line.
- Confirm there is a leak. Meter test and isolation first, so we are not hunting for something that is not there.
- Locate it. Smoke, acoustic listening, pressure testing or a camera, depending on whether it is supply or drain.
- Mark it and quote the repair. You get the location and a written price before any concrete or drywall is touched.
