Do I need a licensed plumber for gas work in Texas?
Yes. Fuel gas piping is plumbing work under Texas law and has to be done by a licensed plumber, and in most cases it needs a permit and an inspection. Tuma Plumbing works under Texas State Master Plumber licence MPL-42269, and we pull the permit rather than leaving that to you.
If you smell gas
Leave the building first, then call the gas utility from outside. Do not flip switches or use anything that sparks. Once the utility has made it safe, we can find and repair the fault and pressure test the system.
- Size the run properly. Appliance demand, pipe length and the number of fittings decide the diameter. An undersized run starves the appliance and it never runs right.
- Pressure test it. The system is tested and holds before it goes back into service. No exceptions.
- Permit and inspection. Done properly, so it is on the record when you come to sell.
A gas line that was never permitted is a problem you inherit at closing, not when it was installed.
